I have been instructed by my Council to enquire as

to the qualifications of Auditors under the Hongkong

Comaphies Ordinances, which we are given to understand the Local Government of Hongkong abd Shanghai have set up, or are about to set up.

A Member of this Association residing at Shanghai intimates that he believes it is the intention of the Authorities at Shanghai to institute a separate Register of Companies in that State which had previously been under the control of the Government of Hongkong.

The same gentleman further intimates that he has

reasons for believing that it has been proposed to grant Certificates for the Audit of the Public Companies only

to Members of the "Institute of Chartered Accountants" or

of the "Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors"

of England.
